About endoftheicons

The Leuser Ecosystem on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia is in grave danger. Local politicians want to allow logging, mining and palm oil plantations in this vulnerable area. Sumatran orangutans, rhinos, elephants and tigers are already hanging on by a thread. They will not survive the destruction of the Leuser Ecosystem.

At last!Let this be a landmark case for corrupt Palm oil companies to take notice of.The two companies mentioned(I’m sure there are more than two operating illegally at this time???!!!!)Must be fined heavily & forced to pay maximum compensation for their wrong doings to show that the Ministry of Enviroment must be taken seriously & therefore other companies who think they can flount the law without redress will be made to think twice!Whilst I am delighted this has happened,I fear that the fines will be paltry & no other punishment given-making this case, which should stand as a detterent, is laughed upon-hopefully the Minister is not just bowing to public pressure and promising everything and delivering nothing………….I will wait with fingers crossed for a speedy, successful result!

If this really happens it may change the palm oil industries attitude to the environment and the law. . But having seen and heard these empty threats before I doubt anything will come of it

One thing is for sure, nothing would have even come of it had we just stood back and watched as Tripa burnt, but we didn’t just watch, or monitor, we took action, and we’re not about to stop now.
